A Naturopathic Doctor and Functional Medicine Practitioner On a Mission
A New Viewpoint on Healthcare: Uniting Naturopathic Medicine and Functional Medicine
We live in a world where aggression and domination seems to be prominent, even in the conventional view of medicine. There is a bombardment of fear in the media citing disease outbreaks and the aggressive measures taken to “fight” and “eradicate” them. There is a “war on Cancer”, a “war on Aids”, and even a “war on Healthcare Reform.” Heroic measures and manipulation of body systems into submission is the current solution. However, as a result of mitigating symptoms, debilitating side effects and deterioration in vitality usually result.
I choose to view healthcare in a more healing and positive way. Rather than fighting something in the body, I believe that if the body is supported properly, it can re-balance and function optimally. In order to provide this, I incorporate the training I received in the basic medical sciences and the core clinical sciences with the philosophy of naturopathic, functional, and mind-body medicine. This approach unifies biological science with a belief in the body’s innate healing ability. Symptoms are viewed not as something to suppress, but as clues that the body provides. These can be decoded to find the root cause of the issue. Once this is achieved, bodily symptoms are no longer necessary and cease.
A Holistic Mission Using Naturopathic Medicine
My goal is to empower people by providing them with evidence-based and effective natural treatments using the naturopathic and functional medicine philosophies and tools. I believe everyone should be treated as an individual within an integrative medicine model in which clients and healthcare providers partner as a team. Honoring the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) is imperative for true healing. I want my clients to thrive, not just survive.
The Naturopathic Physician Oath
I dedicate myself to the service of humanity as a practitioner of the art and science of Naturopathic medicine. I will honor my teachers and all who have preserved and developed this knowledge, and dedicate myself to supporting the growth and evolution of Naturopathic medicine.
I will endeavor to continually improve my abilities as a healer through study, reflection, and genuine concern for humanity.
I will impart knowledge of the advanced healing arts to dedicated colleagues and students.
Through precept, lecture, and example, I will assist and encourage others to strengthen their health, reduce risks for disease, and preserve the health of our planet for ourselves, our families, and future generations.
Upholding the Six Naturopathic Medicine Principles
According to my best ability and judgment, I will use methods of treatment, which follow the principles of naturopathic medicine:
• First of all, to do no harm.
• To act in cooperation with the Healing Power of Nature.
• To address the fundamental causes of disease.
• To heal the whole person through individualized treatment.
• To teach the principles of healthy living (“doctor as teacher”) and preventive medicine (“prevention is the best cure”).
I will conduct my life and the practice of Naturopathic health care with vigilance, integrity, and freedom from prejudice.
I will abstain from voluntary acts of injustice and corruption. I will keep confidential whatever I am privileged to witness, whether professionally or privately, that should not be divulged.
With my whole heart, before this gathering of witnesses, as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, I pledge to remain true to this oath.
