This research was exciting to me, because I too submit myself to the electromagnetic radiation (EMF) of a cell phone. Even though I try to use the speakerphone as much as possible, there’s still a little tug in my belly when I reach for my razor. Therefore, using a natural product to prevent this EMF damage is great news! (For more information on the harmful effects of cell phones see my article on cell phones : Link ).

For you science junkies, gingko biloba is standardarized to approximately 24% flavone glycosides and 6% terpene lactones. Therapeutic essential oils, like gingko biloba, provide antioxidant protection, are vascular toners, and pass the blood brain barrier; so could they also be deterring some of the negative effects of EMFs? When I researched more about this, I found that although the scientific makeup for the active constiuents of an oil and gingko biloba may appear different, the oils do contain some of the raw materials for making Gingko’s active constituents! Cool, here’s how:

Therapeutic oils are comprised of terpenoids, including phenylproponoids which are the source of flavonoid structures. They also contain various side group constituents, which can include terpenes, phenols, and esters (which are related to lactones). Therefore, I believe that these wonderful sesquiterpene rich oils cross the blood brain barrier to help oxygenate my brain and quench any free radical damage from EMF exposure!

What’s so wonderful about nature is that even though as a society, we may take more from it than we give back; it still wants to protect us from our own made destruction. This reminds me of the vital force in the human body. Although, we may consciously or unconsciously harm it with how we treat it, it will do whatever it needs to get our attention, aka symptoms. The job of a good holistic practitioner is to decode these symptoms and help you to re-establish a good communicative relationship with your body.

I’m looking forward to more studies on proving how other brain healthy supplements, such as fish oil, co-Q10, and bioflavonoids, provide protection from EMFs. Be sure to ask your favorite naturopathic doctor or integrated healthcare provider about which supplement might best suite your need for protection and prevention of EMF damage, in combination with your specific treatment protocol.
