Listen to this blog in 4 minutes here.

In this blog, I want to share with you some of my recently published articles in Natural Path. In the latest two-part series, I discuss the problems associated with masking symptoms at the expense of uncovering the cause of an illness. In Part II, I explain how essential oils can be a tool that assists with harmonizing the body as it addresses the underlying factors involved in autoimmunity.

Below are the summaries and links for the full articles.

The Need for True Holistic Health for Optimizing Wellness

In  “Focusing on Body Health vs. Symptom Control: Creating True Wellness,” I explain how the “pill for every ill” belief is creating an American nation that is searching for fast relief and superficial solutions. Although symptom suppression can be necessary, many are confusing the absence of discomfort for health. True wellness and preventative care focuses on the cause of the disease, rather than simply using tests to predict risk. If we only have solutions for the end stages of illnesses, the best we can do is monitor test results until a diagnosis can be made and a prescription can be written.

America is brilliant in acute care for the unwell, but applying it to chronic care has led our nation to be a “sick-care” system with resulting sad statistics. In measurements of healthcare, the United States places last in comparison to other industrialized nations.

This needs to change.

We need to have not just more access to better healthcare, but a change in how we view health.

It isn’t just that we need to swap medications for herbs or oils either. As I write in the article:

One of the most frequent questions I receive about essential oils and supplements is how to use them to “treat” various conditions. Many are looking for a simple swap of a condition for a “magic” oil. This pill-for-every-ill mentality that we’ve been fed for so long runs deeply embedded in our culture and in our current approach to healthcare.

Oh, if only it were so simple!

Essential Oils and Autoimmunity

In order to bring about true healing, we need to look at all the factors and underlying causes that keep a disease active. In “Autoimmunity and Essential Oils,” I discuss how essential oils can bring about balance to the body and optimize wellness through their actions on our biochemistry, physiology, and psychology. Rather than suppressing symptoms, essential oils compliment the system and support the body in regaining health.

I specifically explain how essential oils can be used to address some of the causes of autoimmunity and influence the triggers which perpetuate the immune imbalance.

I state:

Using essential oils, along with lifestyle, can be beneficial in supporting the body’s overall wellness and immune response, while addressing the root causes of the imbalances. They are also one of the best tools for prevention of diseases due to their multifactorial effects. In this article, I specifically demonstrated their use in relationship to autoimmunity.

This makes essential oils solid allies to naturopathic and functional medicine’s approaches and philosophy. True healthcare is best achieved with protocols tailored to the unique individual and by implementing tools that can balance the body without suppressing symptoms.
